Youth The ‘EDGE & HOUSE on Saturday Night’: The first and third Saturday of every month, we hold a youth worship service that we call the EDGE, from 6:30-7:30 PM. During the EDGE service, we sing contemporary Christian Songs and hymns and we participate in an interactive study that meets teen needs. Following the service, the youth participate in the HOUSE. We set aside certain areas of the church for activities. We have areas for movies, areas for conversation and board games, an area for ping-pong and an area for snacking. The HOUSE lasts until about 9:30 PM.We have two sleepovers each year, one that is at the end of October, which coincides with our Lutheran Reformation (which happens to be the same day as Halloween). The other sleepover is during the School Spring Break. These events always begin with worship and include plenty of food, snacks, movies, games and very little sleep. Youth Sunday: The fourth Sunday of every month is designated “Youth Sunday.” The youth of our congregation serve as ushers, greeters, read scripture, lead music, and serve as worship assistants. Following the service, we have lunch together and participate in a fun event, including lazar tag, beach parties, arcade games, mini-golf, go carts, movies, bowling and similar activities. Special Activities: From time to time, special activities are organized, which include retreats, service activities around the church, service at the Gospel Mission, external mission trips and helping with our VBS at Grace Lutheran Church. Vacation Bible School on the Queen Charlottes: For the past six years, our congregation has sent a team of adults and youth to lead a Vacation Bible School in a community on British Columbia’s Queen Charlotte Islands. To put on the VBS, our team travels 1,600 kilometers and spends 7 hours on a ferry each way. It typically takes place the latter part of August. From 2001 to 2005 we traveled to the Village of Masset on the northern tip of the islands. In 2006, we led a VBS at the Lord or Life Community Church in Sandspit. VBS takes place from 1:00 AM to about 4:00 pm. It includes Bible lessons, skits, games, recess, crafts, music, and snacks. Each year, we have a theme for the whole week. The sanctuary and other areas of the church are decorated to fit the theme. Watch for announcements on our VBS web page. |
