Report of Grace Lutheran Church
Missions Awareness Committee to the
Annual General Meeting of the Congregation
Jesus’ word to His disciples, “You shall be my witnesses to Judea and Samaria and to the uttermost parts of the world”, reminds us, who are also His disciples, that included in the Great Commission is our congregation’s witness locally as well as the “uttermost” parts of the world.
Your Committee has sought to fulfill its mandate in every area – not always as effectively as we would have liked – by encouraging our congregation’s outreach.
- Locally: scheduling solicitations, enlisting and encouraging fellow members to assist with our participation on the fourth Tuesday of every month in the ministry of the Kelowna Gospel Mission’s outreach to the ‘down and out’ people in our own community.
- a) Sponsoring our congregation’s outreach and ministry to some of the people in Canada’s North through our youth’s summer Vacation Bible School in which our pastor and about a dozen youth and leaders went to the Queen Charlotte Islands.
b) Conducting another clothing drive for the Lutheran Association’s LAMPWICK store in LaRonge, Saskatchewan.
- Globally: maintaining our relationship with the Talitha Cum, our “sister” congregation in Peru, and sponsoring a “Missions Evening” with Peruvian missionary Katherine Bergbusch.
New this year (2007) was the involvement of our youth in our “Mission Moments” program, in which our youth highlight some of our outreaches on Youth Sunday – short presentations at the beginning of our worship time on the fourth Sunday.
We are grateful for your support and thank each one for the time, talents, and treasure with which you have supported our efforts in encouraging our congregation’s response to our Lord’s call. May He grant His blessing as we continue in the service of His Kingdom.
The membership of our committee has dwindled some over the years, so if you have a ‘heart’ for missions, please consider joining our ranks or helping with our KGM commitment. Please let us know.
Respectfully submitted,
Your Missions Awareness Committee
