Why Study the Bible?

The Bible begins with a universe described as water and chaos shrouded in darkness. God spoke into the darkness and the chaos, and changed it. God spoke and created the world we live in. The crowning glory of creation was the creation of humanity - male and female who were made in God’s image. This account of creation reveals much about God, His word and why we should study God’s word. At its most basic, this account of creation declares that when God speaks, things happen, light and life emerge; chaos is tamed and order is brought into the world.

The Bible also teaches that human beings were created in a state of innocence; however, that innocence was shattered and there was a fall from God’s grace. Because of this fall, sin and death came into our world. Chaos returned once again to the world. God promised to change this state of affairs and speak into the chaos again. The Bible teaches us that the ultimate expression of God’s Word is Jesus Christ, God’s one and only Son. The Gospel of John calls Jesus the “Word Made Flesh” (John 1:14). We believe that Jesus, through His life, death and resurrection, was the greatest expression of God’s love for the world and saved the world from sin and death (John 3:16).

We believe that when we study these words, God works a change in us and we come to have faith in God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We believe that God’s Word speaks into the chaos and darkness of our lives and we can become a new creation of God
